The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has partnered with the Business Education Council to recognize students in grades 6-12 who show an interest in entrepreneurship. Three winners of the Minister’s Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence will receive a $1,000 grant and mentorship to help them start or grow their business.

Have you ever thought about starting your own business? The Minister’s Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence is your chance to show your entrepreneurial spirit and get real-world experience pitching your idea and making it a reality. You can show entrepreneurship in different ways. Your idea could be for a product or service you could offer in your community, a way to solve a social or environmental problem you’ve noticed, or an invention or app that could make people’s lives easier.

Who can apply;

The award is open to students in grades 6–12 at a public school in Nova Scotia in the 2017-2018 school year.

How it works

Judges will review each application for how realistic the business plan is, and how it could address a social or environmental problem or create economic growth in Nova Scotia

Finalists will be invited to a pitch competition and a winner will be chosen in each of 3 categories: Social Enterprise, Technology, and Innovation/Creativity.

The 3 winning students will each receive $1,000 to help launch their idea or start their business. They’ll also be matched with a business mentor from their community to give them advice and coaching.
